A very good hideaway place far from the
hassle bassle of city life is Palawan. Several hundred miles from Puerto
Princesa is found a river underneath a big mountain. It is called the Underground
River. Due to darkness, one rides lighted the banca to see the stalagmites
and stalactites. These native wonders have been formed by tiny droplets of
water for hundred years and based on one’s rich imagination, various figures
of different colors can be drawn from them. Statues such as that of Blessed
Virgin castle and cathedral, towers and canopies have been made up by
tourists from the nature’s wonder. It is just sad that the place has not been
given a shot in the arm by the Department of tourism. The Jogged roads
leading to the place remain bumpy.

Every December 30 of
each year, the nation honors its greatest hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. Dr. Rizal
approached reforms and progress through peaceful means. It is a legacy he
left as he advocated our country’s development without bloodshed. He
succeeded planting the seed of nationalism and radical change trough his two
novels, the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo.

success is the best revenge and that the biggest loser is the one who fails
to maximize his potentials (Editorial, The Phil Star, December 31, 19940.
Ninety eight years ago, Dr. Rizal already awakened the Filipinos to use their
heads and be disciplined. Had Rizal’s call been heard, the country could have
experienced the turnaround in political and moral development earlier.
