EXERCISE II
ANSWER AND SOLUTION
Problem 1.
Answers: 15 games
Loses 40 = .4 x 40 = 16 games
Wins 40 = 40 – 16 = 24 wins in the first 40 games
Total wins = 65% the games
W40 + W20 = 65(40+20) = 39.00
24 + W20 = 39
W20 = 39 – 24 – 15 games (answer)
Problem 2.
Answers: 28 days
Greater : Less = Greater : Less
40 students : 10 students= x days : 7 days
10 x = 40 (7)
10x/10 = 280/10
x = 28 days
Problem 3.
Answers: N = 16
Let N = No. of divisions
240 = 4 (240)
N+4 5 N
I = 4
N+4 5N
5N = 4N + 16
N = 16
Problem 4.
Answer: 15%
P680.00 – P575.00 = P105.00
P105.00 / P680.00 = .15
= 15%
Problem 5.
Answer: 4 qts.
% of water = 12 qts. - .2 (12) = 2.4 qts. Calamansi
Let W = added amount of water
2.4 / 12 + W = .15
1.8 + .15 W
W =.6 / .15
W = 4 qts.
Problem 6.
Answer: 10 men to be added
Let x = no. of men to finish in 4 days
20:x = 4:6
4x = 120
x = 30 men to finish in 4 days
30 -2- = 10 men to be added
Problem 7.
Answer: 9
Let N = 1st group
24 – N = other groups
N – (24 – N) = 6
N – 24 + H = 6
2N = 30
N = 15
24 – N = 9
Problem 8.
Answer: 20
Let T = total time
T – (3/10) T = 14
7/10 T = 14
T = 140/7
T = 20
Problem 9.
Answer: 1.22 hours
Ratio of A = 200 (converted to hrs.) / 2.3 hrs = 87 hrs.
Ratio of B = 200 / 2.6 hrs = 77 hrs.
Combining A & B = 164 hours
Time for 200 combined = 200/164 = 1.22 hours
Problem 10.
Answer: 45 hectares for the eldest son’s share
1 + 2 + 3 = 6 equals parcels of lot
Let N = area of lot or share
6N/6 = 90 hectares / 6
N = 15 hectares for the youngest son’s share
2 N = 2 (15)
= 30 hectares for the middle son’s share
3 N = 3 (15)
= 45 hectares for the eldest son’s share
Problem 11.
Answer: d 487.50
C1 : C2 = hb1: hb2
P780 : C2 = 120:75
120c = 780(75)
120c / 120 = 58500 / 120
C = P487.50
Problem 12.
Answer: a. 1,512
Let N = no. of workers retained
16 N = 288
N = 288 / 16
N = 1,800
= 1800 – 288
= 1,512
